Prop 65

What is this notice?

WARNING: Cancer and Reproductive Harm- https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/

This warning is our effort to comply with the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act (Proposition 65) enacted by California in 1986.

What is Proposition 65?

In 1986, California enacted the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act known as Proposition 65 ("Prop 65"). The purpose of Prop 65 is to ensure that California consumers are informed about potential exposure to toxic chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive harm. The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), which is a branch of the California Environmental Agency, administers the Prop 65 and provides a list of Prop 65 chemicals. For more information and a full list of Proposition 65 chemicals visit https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/

Why does Prospec Electronics post this warning?

A Prop 65 warning means one of the following:

1. Testing reveals that the product contains one or more chemicals on the Prop 65 list, exceeding safe limits as defined by Prop 65.

2. The warning based on the known presence Prop 65 chemicals without further testing.

While it is not our belief that proper use of our products will result in cancer or reproductive harm and most of our products meet other international standards such as the RoHs (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), it is also our belief that they do incorporate materials known to contain some degree of chemicals that are on the Prop 65 list. The list is of Prop 65 chemicals is so expansive with frequent updates, the cost of testing is prohibitive in most cases. As the penalties for non-compliance are strict and there are no penalties for posting an unnecessary label, Prospec Electronics has decided to post the label to ensure compliance.
